⌗ BOOKKEEPING + GST/HST

Your books should build
while you work.

Galaxy Unit connects invoices, receipts and expenses to your bookkeeping workflow so you can see tax collected, eligible input tax credits, filing periods and your current tax position without rebuilding the business in a second system.

What does bookkeeping software do for a service business?

Bookkeeping software organizes the financial records created by the business — revenue, expenses, tax and ledger activity — so the owner can understand what happened and prepare for reporting. Galaxy Unit connects that bookkeeping layer directly to operational records such as invoices, receipts and job expenses instead of asking you to recreate them later.

YOUR CURRENT TAX POSITION

Know where you stand
before filing day.

For a GST/HST-registered business, the useful question is not only how much tax you collected. You also need to understand eligible input tax credits from business purchases and expenses.

Galaxy keeps those numbers connected to the invoices and expense records that created them.

Eligible input tax credits− $1,144.06

One source of truth.
Invoices contribute to tax collected. Confirmed expense records can contribute eligible tax paid. The period view brings the two sides together.
CONNECTED BOOKKEEPING

One transaction should not need
to be entered twice.

The bookkeeping advantage comes from continuity. A customer invoice and a scanned receipt are already useful operational records; Galaxy carries their financial information forward.

FILING PERIODS

Stop rebuilding the quarter
at the end of the quarter.

Galaxy keeps filing periods visible while the business is operating, so tax collected and eligible expense-side tax can accumulate as the underlying records are entered.

REGISTRATION THRESHOLD

See the threshold
before you cross it.

For many Canadian businesses, GST/HST registration depends on taxable supplies and the small-supplier threshold. Galaxy can surface the rolling picture instead of leaving that number hidden across invoices.

The example below uses the ordinary $30,000 small-supplier threshold. Registration rules have exceptions and should be confirmed for your situation.

BUSINESS-USE EXPENSES

Not every expense is
100% business.

Mixed-use expenses need context. Galaxy can retain the business-use percentage alongside the expense so the bookkeeping record reflects how the cost is actually used.

That keeps the financial record closer to the business reality and reduces cleanup later.

Clear answers also make the page easier for search and AI systems to understand without padding it with generic accounting copy.

How does Galaxy Unit track HST collected?

Galaxy Unit uses the tax information on invoices and other connected financial records to build the collected-tax side of the current filing period. That means the tax view is tied to the same invoices used to run the business.

How are input tax credits connected to expenses?

When an eligible GST/HST amount is recorded on a business expense, that tax can contribute to the input-tax-credit side of the period. Eligibility depends on the nature and commercial use of the purchase, so the underlying expense record remains reviewable.

Does Galaxy Unit replace an accountant?

Galaxy Unit is designed to keep operational and bookkeeping records organized as the business works. It does not replace professional tax or accounting advice where your situation requires it.

What is the $30,000 GST/HST small-supplier threshold?

For many ordinary Canadian businesses, the CRA uses a $30,000 threshold when determining small-supplier status, including tests involving a single calendar quarter and the previous four consecutive calendar quarters. Special cases and timing rules apply, so the dashboard should be treated as a tracking aid rather than legal or tax advice.
